We make a big fuss at our cottages for the December month of Advent, Christmas and New Year as this is a time of year we love ourselves
During December you can enjoy so many local Christmassy events and go Christmas Shopping in the world class centres of Cardiff, Bath, Bristol or Cheltenham. Of pick up a one off hand crafted item in our attractive market towns. Take in a show or go skating!
At Christmas itself, you can sit by our woodburners and open your own gifts round fully decorated real trees fresh from the local forests or you can relax in our cosy bedrooms with their Christmas pretties.
Stay durations are from 4 or 5 nights to a full week or even longer.
As the cottages have all mod cons as well as enormous traditional charm they make an excellently relaxing country style escape. Our kitchens can easily cope with festive meals but we are close to many excellent pubs and restaurants so why not take the effort out of it all and let them pamper you.
If you ask us in advance of arrival we can direct you to local suppliers of free range turkeys and delicious venison, a chef who could fill your freezer, a wonderful fishmonger and more. The major supermarkets will also all deliver via their on line order systems.
Because we have it all we are often booked up well ahead,we are now taking bookings for Christmas and New Year 24-25 and it is not advisable to delay for these special dates.
There is a lot to do in the area and we can direct you to horse racing and carol singing, markets, pantomimes, outdoor skating or all varieties of Santa Specials.
If you cannot come to us over the festivals themselves why not consider our Advent breaks during December. There are in fact more events before Christmas than over the actual holidays, we decorate with everything except the tree and a break away lets you reunite with friends or enjoy the experience of shopping in our market towns or enjoying the world class shopping in Cardiff . Even take in a show in Cardiff or at one of Monmouth’s two super theatres.
A highspot of Advent ( usually 1st Saturday of December but please check with us) is the open air carol service in roofless Tintern Abbey by the light of torches and preceded by mulled wine. Breathtaking. It’s just across the road from Tintern Abbey Cottage and easily reached from the other two cottages. (The service has always been in aid of charity, is organised by Chepstow Rotary Club and we are keen supporters.) It goes ahead whatever the weather and for us it is the true start of Christmas.See pictures below! You will also find us at the Usk Winter fair buying crafts, drinking mulled wine and some years meeting real reindeer! Wow.
There are excellent restaurants and pubs near our houses from a Michelin Star and a TV chef to a country pub or a fish and chip takeaway. What do you fancy? We can supply a list if you want to make reservations…..
We can also “package” a holiday for any date to be a Christmas present , supplying a suitable card for you to present as an announcement of your gift. If your recipient is not able to stay at the cottage on the “right” day but will enjoy their stay later on, this would make a great choice.
In general other cottages offer very short weekend breaks arriving Friday and turfing you out on Sunday. But ours are more relaxed. We offer Friday afternoon arrivals and let you stay to Monday morning departures included in the price. We know that some people do have to leave us during Sunday but this free extra time pattern allows you to stay as much of the weekend as you are able. Let’s face it you don’t really want to be turfed out early on a Sunday morning do you? A lie in and a leisurely walk and lunch are surely more appealing before you return to reality.
Mid week breaks are great value too !
