Come horse racing

Excellent racing minutes away from your cottage at Chepstow Racecourse ,  and  at  Cheltenham Racing Festival in Gold Cup week (one hour away)

Chepstow Racecourse also has numerous special events such as  after racing concerts (  – Lionel Ritchie, George Ezra, Madness, Tom Jones, Paloma Faith and many more ),themed meetings (Caribbean, Kids) which are fun for the whole family and it is often the base for other things like Chepstow Agricultural Show, the Mudder challenge,  car rallies and more. Get your tickets on line and prepare to enjoy!

Competitions to watch (or to enter)

• Badminton  Horse trials under 1 hour by car
• Monmouthshire Show, Chepstow Show, Usk, and Abergavenny Shows all have strong horse sections.
• The Monmouth Hunt, Curre Hunt. Llangibby Hunt all operate locally  and have  exciting  competitive events  such as Point to Points
• Wales and West at David Broome Centre

Endurance riding

Foxes Reach and Tintern Abbey Cottages are an ideal base for Endurance riders to train or just hack out and admire the fabulous scenery.

There are a number of Endurance rides and pleasure rides each year.( Offas Dyke Group of Endurance GB)

Stabling can often be arranged  for your own horse ( walking distance from Foxes Reach, approx 1. 5 miles from Tintern Abbey Cottage). This  was  our own sport and we can advise on routes and sometimes find you a riding companion.

Learn to ride or to improve

• There is a good riding school (Severnvale)  at Chepstow
• The David Broome centre  which has show jumping, dressage and other competitions, is very local
• Pony trekking is brilliant from LLanthony area (mountain scenery)
