Reviews from our guests

There are several places where our guests leave us comments.

Not everyone writes in our books – but some people do write by hand in the visitor books in each cottage ( sometimes even signed by the pets! ) Sometimes people forget to write in the book and e mail us later. We faithfully copy these comments as they come in and we upload them here. The only thing we ever hide or alter is the full guest name and address for obvious reasons of privacy.

Secondly we encourage our guests to write about us on the site through which they booked (Trip Advisor, Air B and B, Cottages.com, Freetobook  etc)

As you will see we do have brilliant reviews. They are genuine, not a “fix” and  and its not that nothing ever goes wrong!  Although our standards are very high just occasionally, in the real world,  things are bound to happen. Machines fail, something breaks. The successive good reviews are  because if something does go awry, and if our guests tell us about it  during their stay,  we do move heaven and earth to fix it while those guests are still with us. People greatly appreciate this effort  on our part  and we guarantee  we always make it. If once in a while a review is less than wonderful it is  almost always the case that it was outside our control ( internet down or slow in the whole area for example)  or  sometimes we were  inexplicably only advised about a problem after those guests had departed when there was sadly nothing we could do to make it better.

Lovely, comfortable well equipped cottage. Very much enjoyed the recalcitrant vodka. We walked miles and enjoyed the hot tub and the wood burner! Would love to come again!
Thank you so much!

Many thanks for a really wonderful long weekend and the cottage and it’s amenities are worthy of praise. The log fire added to its charm. The weather was really exceptional and contributed to our enjoyment. The Anchor Inn and The Fountain Inn both are recommended for a really good meal and service.

“Our 2nd visit to Vanilla and we were not disappointed!
The weather was not kind to us this week ( reminds us of our home in Scotland) and our intended walks were dashed. The Farmers Market in Usk was great and kept us well fed for a couple of days. The Red Kite centre is a must and there is a lovely walk to enjoy afterwards. We had meals at the Kings Head Usk ( good honest pub food), the Foxhunter good but a bit overpriced,at the Hardwick a really excellent meal and we long to go aagain. Finally the Black Bear a fantastic meal and good chat. Our two dogs enjoyed the walks and are gong home fitter.
Liffey got 2nd at the Welsh Kennel Club Show this week and beat her great rival.
Thanks for everything

“Our guests at Vanilla left us this rhyme this week – in their 80s and clearly still having fun!

Vanilla Cottage ,an unusual name
Through the internet it has now found fame
The cottage is quaint a blend old and new
The garden is pretty with roses to view
Theres everything to use- its just like home
The only thing missed was the telephone
After drinking the wine – thats gone to your head
You swing on the rope as you go up to bed
You sink in the bath with bubbles galore
You emerge in the gown from the bedroom door
Sipping blackcurrant vodka you get into bed
And toast to a lovely week ahead.

“Just a 3 night stay, but long enough to appreciate the effort that has gone into making Vanilla Cottage so perfect. All the little extras were much appreciated.
Raglan Castle worth a visit also The Skirrid Inn (oldest pub in Wales) Locally The Black Bear is excellent and the golf club next door is handy for a Sunday carvery lunch.
