Wye Valley Autumn beauty

Golden Autumn  2025 “Leaf Peeping “

Golden Autumn in the Wye Valley is wonderful So much to do BECAUSE of the weather, not despite it!  Looking to get away for some fresh air and a great walk through rustling leaves ?  Wanting a cosy romantic escape to the country? Pink cheeks , wellies ,and  windswept hair?  Dreaming of a warm soak in a hot tub before retreating to the woodburner? Fancy doing some Christmas Shopping in Cardiff, Bath, or Cheltenham- or our attractive market towns? Get out your snazziest autumn woolies and come and enjoy the great outdoors- and the great indoors.

We have autumn 7, 3 and 4 night  breaks at our  warm and welcoming cottages (ask us about other durations) . Come for Halloween or Bonfire night , rustle in leaves, get out on a bike, and enjoy the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness. Have a look!

Other countries advertise their “Fall Colours ”  and the Americans in particular call trips to see the glory of Autum colours “Leaf Peeping” but did you know that the Wye Valley is a great place to see the golden colours of autumn?  Recognised as one of the most beautiful woodlands in Britain, with most of its 4,300 hectares lying within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty we have stunning colours! Come and peep at them!

The abundance of water in spring has helped trees to produce lots of sugar-rich leaves. This suggests we could see a rainbow of colour, but for the best autumn colours, we also need plenty of sunshine during September and October to enjoy a beautiful display of colour. Autumn’s foliage displays are affected by the weather. Sunny days and cool nights accentuate leaf colour. However, extreme weather events, such as early heavy frosts or strong storms, can cause loss of leaves before they reach peak colour.

Have a look at this wonderful LIVE LINK   from the Forestry Commission (England) which shows you exactly when the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean trees are turning gold and then at their best. ( note the link is only working once the colours start to change in Autumn of  each year and the date varies ! )  Brilliant!

This quote is from Tintern Abbey Cottage guests October  – “Tintern Abbey is just over the road although it may as well be in your front garden. It appears out of the mist on a chilly October morning and it just takes your breath away.”

How long is a short break?

In general  other cottages offer very short  weekend breaks  arriving Friday and turfing you out on Sunday.  But ours are more relaxed. We offer Friday afternoon arrivals and  let you stay to Monday morning departures included in the price. We know that some people have to leave us  during Sunday  but this free extra time pattern allows you to stay as much of the weekend  as you are able. Let’s face it you don’t really want to be turfed out early on a Sunday morning do you?  A lie in and a leisurely walk  and lunch are surely more appealing before you return to reality.

If course if you would like to stay longer than  a short break please ask!

Foxes Reach – the one with its own hot tub

Snuggle up!

These short stays are still long enough stay for a good soak in the hot tub and a glow by the woodburner, a lovely relaxing weekend or  a midweek stay away!

When we first show the autumn break prices the rate will be for a party of up to 6 . Party of only two reductions may be available . If we are not showing them yet please ask.
