Tintern Abbey Cottage “delightful cottage”A great stay in a comfortable cottage We have loved the view, spending most evenings watching the lights illuminate the Abbey (the cows have been pretty entertaining too!)
We have cycled, run, canoed, and walked and made the most of the beautiful surroundings.
The Wild Hare served a tasty meal and a welcome drink
Parva Vineyard was worthy of the £2.50 spend
And a visit to the ruined church left us contemplating the word “deplored”
Thank you for going the extra mile for “the anniversary “

Monmouthshire Cottages are ideally located for those wishing to cycle on or off road- from a very comfortable base.
At Tintern Abbey Cottage we have a purpose built store with a rack for 5 bikes ,( fully lockable doors being installed May 22 ) . Foxes Reach can secure 2-3 bikes in its laundry room . Both also have hose pipes for washing off mud. We have the Visit Wales Cyclists Welcome award too.
(Needless to say both cottages have excellent bathrooms, washing machines and tumble driers so mud is not an issue on people either!) After a fun packed and active day you will be glad to return to a warm house, chill by the woodburner at either cottage, soak in the hot tub at Foxes Reach or the spa bath at Abbey Cottage – or try one of the numerous pubs!
Locally there are lanes where road bikers and tri-athletes can get in some hill work, and you can book into the Wales National Velodrome in Newport (20 minutes by car) for lessons .
Don’t miss the Abergavenny Festival of Cycling ( late June ) or the Wye Valley Wiggle ( early May)
There are new businesses where you can hire bikes locally with deliveries to Foxes Reach and Tintern Abbey Cottage possible.
The long awaited NEW shared cycle / walking route all the way from Tintern to Chepstow is open. It follows the route of the old railway line and a highlight is cycling though the ( lit) tunnel!
The route is open between April and October only (due to wildlife protection needs) and the tunnel itself is locked and its lights off overnight. It is expected to be open 9-5 but please check the timings at the start of your ride. If starting from Tintern cross the river on the Wireworks bridge and turn right!
This route makes it possible to go from Brockweir or Tintern all the way to Chepstow you are also conveniently placed for continuing into Chepstow itself to visit the castle ( this last part by road is hilly and maybe not great for children ) . The route is a firm natural surface suited to off road bikes, with tarmac only in the actual tunnel. No traffic so excellent for walkers , dogs and children on bikes on the greenway too.
NOTE Despite protests the wireworks bridge in Tintern will be closed for maintenance works from June 2022 for the rest of the year. However you can still access the Greenway from Brockweir. Please ask us.

You will be dropped off at the very top of the hill right next to the start of the trails.
