The Wye Valley River Festival came to Tintern on 18 May and what an fantastic day it was. Not only really HOT and SUNNY but the Abbey was completely packed with an excited audience for this rare event. Choirs, musicians, poets, actors, a harpist, and more told the fascinating story of the Abbey and its thousand year history. The audience were spellbound from the appearance of Gilpin, Henry 8 and Wordsworth, to the memorable playing of Charlotte Poulter ( Harp) and the moving Eli Jenkins’s Prayer from Under Milkwood memorably given by Caldicot Male Voice Choir.
The audience brought chairs and picnics and loved every moment- as swallows came swooping through the arches and the sun gradually sank behind the majestic columns.
All performers had chosen repertoire which reflected the River, the Abbey, and the glorious Wye Valley and on this summers evening none of them could have been more glorious.
It was fabulous.
